Notes from the Podium- October 18th Review

Members and community of the Benton Band program- you have many reasons to proud of your band. October 18th was a day for us to show off for the public.

In the morning, the Benton Marching Cardinals represented itself well for the community of St. Joseph for the MWSU Home-coming parade. The students sounded as good as they have at any point this year when they played "Birdland" marching past the sound judge. I was proud to walk alongside. The end of the parade will be something for me to remember for the rest of my teaching career. Students were able to "let their hair down" for the last block of the parade as they played and moved to "Jump on It".

The afternoon was spent eating lunch, picking up the park, and driving to the Missouri Day Marching Band Festival in Trenton, MO. The Marching Cardinals performed in competition outside of St. Joseph for the second time ever! Many of the area band directors were impressed by the sounds coming off the field. I thought it was a very solid performance. We made music! We had a show that reflected our work and style!!! It was definitely something to be proud of.

It was a great end to an outstanding marching season. I'm excited to see what the next months of concert band bring!

Make that two. I couldn't help but smile as we marched passed the crowd of people. Way to go Benton Band! The field show was great too. I think that it also goes to show what can happen when you listen to your awesome band director!!! Thanks for all your hard work. Everyone!
